Dear parents/ guardians,
I would like to start this e mail by thanking you so very much. The offers of help we had this morning were very generous and very much appreciated.
Sometime after Saturday lunch time a mains water pipe burst in the boy’s toilets in main school. This has flooded five classrooms. Miss Marsland’s, Miss Ainsworth’s, Mr Wright’s, Mrs Jordan’s and Mrs Stevenson’s ( entrance only) as well as all offices, library area, and cloakroom have been under a couple of inches of water. Our estimates from meter readings are that 51 cubic metres of water flooded into these areas.
We have been working all day to remove as much water as possible and moved furniture in order to dry it out. The building has been inspected by an insurance loss assessor who has instructed a specialist flood damage mitigation service, who I will be meeting tomorrow. Dehumidifiers have been provided by County Hall.
We obviously want to get the children back into school as soon as possible but we are not in a position yet to know when we will be able to use the affected classrooms. We have therefore made the decision that all pupils in the affected classes will be able to return to school on Thursday 6th July. By this time we will be able to use the school hall to accommodate the children as well as classrooms in the year 5/6 mobile, due to the year 6 pupils spending two days at Ivanhoe.
All clubs before and after school will go ahead as normal.
I realise this is far from ideal but we are doing everything we can in a difficult position.
There will have to be some changes regarding reports etc.
Year 6 pupils will receive their school reports and Key Stage SAT results after the evening performance on Wednesday 5th July.
The rest of school will receive their reports on Thursday 6th July.
Letters informing you of your child’s new class will come home on Thursday, after they have already spent the day with their new class teachers.
Once again, I would like to thank you for your understanding and support. If you have any concerns then please contact me directly.
Kind Regards
L Powell
