Dear Parents and Carers in our school community,
We are writing to you as the Headteachers of the four primary schools in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. We are so fortunate in our town to have such fabulous schools and we can confidently say that whichever primary school your child attends, they will have a good, well-rounded education. As Headteachers, we work closely together to ensure that all of our children’s needs are met, giving lots of opportunities to prepare our children for when the majority join together to move up to their secondary school at the start of Year 7.
As you are aware, there has been extensive building work in our locality which has led to an increase in the demand for school places. As a result a new primary school is planned to be built on the Holywell Farm site which will straddle across two existing catchment areas.
The Headteachers have met with the Local Authority on several occasions to discuss how to lessen the impact on the current schools, whilst ensuring that the new school will not be alienated and will be welcomed into our Ashby Learning Community. We have proposed to merge all catchment areas, resulting in all five schools with one single catchment. There are areas in Leicestershire who have already successfully implemented this model, i.e. Braunstone and Melton. We believe that by taking this action, it will avoid confusion as all families within Ashby will have equal opportunities across all schools in Ashby.
The Local Authority are happy with our proposal and have included this as part of a larger consultation on their School Admission Policy and arrangements to take effect from Autumn 2021.
Their proposal comprises of the following:
You are invited to share your views. The Local Authority consultation is now open and will conclude on 29th November, 2019. You can read the full consultation document at: https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/have-your-say/current-consultations/leicestershire-schools-admissions-consultation-for-2021-entry
The Response Form can be found at: https://surveys.leics.gov.uk/snapwebhost/s.asp?k=157044412524
The primary academies, Ashby Hill Top and Ashby Willesley, will need to carry out their own consultations as academies determine their own catchment areas. More details will be sent out to the parents and carers of the academies. Ashby Church of England and Ashby Woodcote are maintained schools and so the Local Authority are responsible for their catchment areas. However, all four primary school Headteachers and their governing bodies, are in total agreement that this would be the best solution for Ashby as a community.
