Summary of PPG spending for 2016/17

Objectives in spending PPG:

  • To improve progress in reading and writing and raise attainment for disadvantaged pupils in all year groups, to ensure children have access to a wide variety of language, vocabulary and experiences
  • to improve progress and attainment in maths for disadvantaged pupils in all years by improving basic skills
  • To increase the range of resources available across a range of subjects
  • To ensure there is suitably resourced learning area
  • To improve the range of sports attended by disadvantaged
  • To develop a range of activities to challenge for able disadvantaged pupils

Summary of  actions:

  • Extra LSA support given to children across the school for reading writing and maths interventions for those children who are not making or have a history of not making sufficient progress towards their targets. In Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage this includes phonics intervention, small group numeracy support (number recognition and basic skills), one to one reading and some social skills reinforcement. In key stage 2 Read, Write Ink intervention
  • Additional teacher time ( 2 days a week) to support children in small groups and within the classroom- this is used in a variety of ways to release the class teacher to work with specific groups of children and to team teach alongside staff including small group work.
  • Additional teacher Y 5/6 ( each morning and 2 afternoons a week) Enabling class sizes of 20, increased teacher time with disadvantaged each morning for literacy and numeracy
  • Class Act – video recording pack and training – encourage both less able and more able writers to develop a range of writing styles with ‘real’ outcomes
  • Read Write Ink  - All Key Stage 1 and year 3 4 staff trained d. FS and key Stage 1 fully resourced.

Record/ projection of PPG spending by item/project 2016/2017

Item/project

Cost

Objective

Outcome- Summer 2017

Teaching ( y 5/6)

£ 26000

To reduce class sizes in year 5 and 6, allowing more focussed teacher time on those pupils who are disadvantaged / vulnerable to increase attainment and progress. Year 6 targets of 80% at ARE ( secondary ready) in reading and writing and 100%in maths

We did not meet the challenging targets we set ourselves ( results- 50% ARE in reading, 60% in writing and maths) however the progress made by these pupils was very good with 80% making expected progress in reading, 100% in writing and 90% in maths during 2016/17. Year 6 pupils’ progress from KS1 to KS2 was less. For some pupils, the combination of SEND , mobility and  vulnerability resulted in some individual low progress for the key stage as a whole.

Support Staff

£11000

£2300

Employ an extra LSA in Key Stage 1 to support intervention for disadvantaged to increase basic skills.

Cover Supervisor to release KS1 staff 2 afternoons per week to implement intervention.

LSA funding has been used mainly on extra daily one to one Letters and Sound catch up work

Sports Coach

£2000

To increase the number of disadvantaged pupils taking part in after school clubs and increasing lesson time participation. Target of 60% involvement compared to 35% 2015/16

Club attendance rates went up to 48% over 2016/17, however 63% took part in extra lesson time participation.

Parental subsidy, includes music lessons, residential trips, art resources

£3000

To ensure that equal opportunity exists for all pupils in their social development and enabling them to access tuition

Any request for PP funding has been accepted.

Agency  teaching

£10,000

To run intervention and/ or release class teacher to do so, impacting on increase of progress for disadvantaged.

Primarily reading support in year 3 and 4. At the beginning of Y4 57% of the group were at age related expectation, by summer 2017 this had risen to 71% with 87% making expected or exceeding progress. At the start of year 4 38% were at age related, which had risen to 62% with 92% making expected or exceeding progress.

Class Act

£1900

To develop writing skills by enthusing and giving a real purpose to write. All PP taking part to be at or above expected within their year group

This will be ongoing into 2017/2018.More able year 3 and 4 writers have accessed this so far.

Employment of Education Welfare Officer

£2000

Monthly school visits by EWO. Aim to decrease the growing number of disadvantaged pupils with persistent absenteeism ( below 90%)

Comparisons of Pupil Premium pupils, whose attendance were a cause for concern at the end of July 2016, show a 60% rise in attendance. Although in some cases attendance is still low, the EWO will continue to work with families to increase attendance further.

Introduction of Read Write Ink – Whole school training to develop early reading and writing skills

£7500

All PP pupils to be at Age related Objectives by the end of Summer 2016 or at expected relevant to their starting points
