Welcome to the Year 5/6 team
This year Miss Butler will be teaching a Year 5 class, Mrs Burrows and Mrs Trahearn will be teaching a mixed year 5/6 class and Mr Watts will be teaching a Year 6 class.
Our classes are supported by Mrs Clark, Mrs Meadowcroft and Mrs Hall working as classroom assistants.
Our curriculum is organised as part of a rolling programme of topics across Key Stage Two. Each topic contains a coverage of key skills and breadth across the curriculum, which enables links to be made across subjects - promoting creativity and enjoyment for all children.
Children in Year 5 and 6 have guided reading sessions with a member of staff weekly. Some children will also read individually to an adult or take part in intervention groups. Children choose from a selection of books available from the School Library, which are appropriate to their reading level and provide challenge to extend their reading skills. Children may change their reading books anytime during the week once they have completed them.
Children in Year 5 and 6 are part of a Double Digits club which focuses on rapid recall of key number bonds and times tables. Their progress and development in this is assessed weekly through a timed ten minute mental maths test. Please ensure that children in Year 5 and 6 continue to practise their times tables up to 12x12 so they know them off by heart.
