Our Curriculum

Intent

Through our ambitious curriculum, all children at Ashby C of E develop a life-long love of learning where they can challenge themselves in a safe and secure environment. Children are taken on an enriching journey, where learning is carefully sequenced leading to a deeper knowledge and understanding. Woven into our curriculum are exciting and creative opportunities where we can nurture talents, broaden experiences and grow enquiring minds. Our Christian values are at the heart of everything we do, we empower our children to be courageous advocates who can make a positive contribution to both our local and global community.

‘You have filled my heart with greater Joy.’ Psalms 4:7

Our Mission

Our dedicated teachers and support staff provide children with inspirational learning opportunities. The progress of every child is carefully monitored and we ensure the needs of each individual child can always be met.

In the Early Years, our passionate team lay those all-important foundations, expertly guiding learning through carefully planned play-based activities and developing early reading and number skills and knowledge. As children move into KS1 & KS2, we continue to challenge and stimulate them through a carefully sequenced curriculum which connects and deepens key concepts, knowledge and skills.

In addition to accessing the full breadth and depth of the National Curriculum, personal development and growth is a key strand of our ‘Journey of Joy’. Our children acquire a strong understanding of British values and we are committed to providing a range of additional experiences to enhance and enrich learning.

We are passionate about reading at Ashby C of E Primary; in addition to developing fluency in reading, we ensure that our children are exposed to a diverse and inclusive range of texts – reading is woven into all areas of our curriculum. We are also committed to creating a strong culture of reading for pleasure and all children are read to regularly throughout the week – just for the pure pleasure of sharing stories together!

We understand that when children work hard and feel successful, they are motivated to learn more. Our staff are skilled in pitching learning that challenges children. We are passionate about ensuring children can be activated in their own learning journeys, developing self-regulation and independence which ensures this learning carries on beyond the classroom…..

At Ashby C of E we are incredibly proud of our curriculum which is relevant, ambitious and inspiring. Our children leave well prepared for the next step in their educational journey, with a strong moral compass and a desire to be the best version of themselves.
